Artist Statement

My main focus as an artist is to paint "endangered landscapes." My hope and conscious intent is that the paintings may evoke an emotional response from the viewers that will inspire them to take actions to save our precious habitats. For a decade, the Elkhorn Slough and surrounding areas in Santa Cruz have primarily been the inspiration of my artistic expression.I use the landscape as a metaphor, and color as an emotional component to enlist the viewer's appreciation towards our threatened environment.

In 1968 I began painting abstract work. Eventually I transitioned to the landscape format. I was attracted to the full spectrum of color development within atmospheric conditions. My medium is acrylic on canvas. In my paintings, I hope viewers will find positive reinforcement, and gain appreciation of our unique but fragile coastal surroundings.
